Standing Together to End Violence Against Women and Girls

Earlier this week, colleagues from Community Safety and Domestic Abuse Prevention joined Network Rail and partners at Birmingham New Street Station to mark White Ribbon Day, a global campaign calling on men to help end violence against women and girls (VAWG).

Network Rail commissions dedicated Community Safety Officers at Birmingham New Street who work to tackle anti-social behaviour, VAWG, and other forms of criminality, ensuring the station remains a safe and welcoming environment for everyone.

This event was an opportunity to:

  • Show solidarity with the White Ribbon campaign.
  • Engage with the public about the importance of challenging harmful behaviours.
  • Showcase the collaborative work between Birmingham City Council, Network Rail, and British Transport Police in promoting safety across our city.

The stats are shocking:

  • 1 in 3 women will experience domestic abuse.
  • 35,000 calls to West Midlands Police last year.
  • 40,000 calls to our local helpline.

Together, we are creating safer spaces and challenging harmful behaviours.
