Our Team Joins International Women’s Day Event at Birmingham New Street

On 6 March, our Community Safety VAWG (Violence Against Women and Girls) Team was proud to take part in a vibrant and impactful International Women’s Day event held at Birmingham New Street Station. The day was organised by the Domestic Abuse Team at Birmingham City Council in collaboration with Network Rail, bringing together a wide range of organisations committed to supporting women and girls across the city.

A Collective Effort for Safety and Awareness

The event welcomed several partner agencies and other specialist services working to prevent and respond to violence against women and girls. Each organisation hosted an information stall, offering resources, giveaways, and opportunities for meaningful conversations with members of the public.

Footfall throughout the day was excellent, with many people stopping to learn more about the support available locally. Our team had the chance to engage directly with commuters, raise awareness of VAWG issues, and highlight the work being done across Birmingham to improve safety for women and girls.

Inspiring Voices and Powerful Moments

The programme also featured impactful speeches from Network Rail representatives and Councillor Nicky Brennan, who spoke passionately about the importance of partnership working and community engagement in tackling violence against women and girls. One of the standout moments of the day was a dynamic flash mob performance, which drew crowds and helped amplify the event’s message of empowerment and solidarity.

Hosting the event in a busy public space ensured that the message reached a wide and diverse audience. The positive interactions and enthusiastic engagement we experienced throughout the day reflect the community’s commitment to creating a safer Birmingham for all women and girls.
